Reaching Our Jerusalem

Oakville Neighborhood Disciple Making Team

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you,
and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria,
and to the end of the earth.”

Overview:  In response to Jesus’ commission of His disciples here in Acts 1:8, we want to join together to pray for, meet, engage, and serve all the inhabitants inside the Oakville Park and Rec boundaries.  We want to follow Jesus into this community and seek people He is drawing and open a door to the Kingdom for everyone who is yet to embrace Jesus as Lord.

Requirements:

  • Be willing to join us for two monthly meetings of prayer, strategy and accountability, most likely on Tuesday nights.
  • Spend at least 1 hour a week making contact and engaging with neighbors for this purpose.
  • Spend 3 hours a week with the Lord in personal study and prayer.
  • Faithfully represent Christ as an obedient disciple and practice hospitality.
  • Participate in collaborative team efforts like service or socials.

Objectives:

  • Start a group or groups of lost people discovering God’s word together.
  • Coach these groups to follow and serve Jesus as members of a house based or traditional church.
  • Have a meaningful encounter with them all by the end of 2024.
  • Unite the disciples of Jesus in meaningful fellowship and act as the body of Christ in this neighborhood.
  • Meet needs, show love to all, so that the kingdom of God is clearly seen here.

The Task:

We will be meeting together to abide in the Lord together, praying for the lost of our neighborhood.  We will strategically go about the roads, meet our neighbors and get to know them as they are open to it.  Following the guidelines of Jesus found in Luke 10, when the Spirit leads, we will invite welcoming, open, and listening people into obedience and discovery-based Bible studies.  We will host non-threatening social gatherings and meet revealed needs to serve, build trust, and get relationally closer.  When we meet as a team, we will hold each other accountable and report about our monthly progress as well as plan how we will go out together in concerted efforts.  There will be training and coaching ongoing in these disciple making practices.  We are also trusting that God is going to move and we will see redemption as His kingdom comes.  The results are up to Him.  We will continue to practice the ongoing elements of Focusing on God’s Word, Multiplying Extraordinary Prayer, Cast Vision, Train Believers, Go Out among the Lost, See Groups Start, and Ongoing coaching.
